View Full Version : Telescoping bridge
All right, this is a long shot, but I'll give it a try. In my anal-retentiveness, I want to carry my own bridge, because in playing at a variety of places, I've found that not all of them have a bridge. However, I do not want to walk around with a full-length bridge for obvious "dorkiness" reasons, and I really don't like the leather bridge heads that get stuck over another cue, because they eventually start to wear a bit and get loose.
Here's what I'm looking for -- a telescoping bridge that has a removeable head and will fit in a shaft tube of a standard case. While I am not excessively crafty, I would be able to modify an existing telescoping handle of the right length to accomodate a bridge head (I'm thinking a leather head with a reinforced hole that has a metal washer on each side, and then a wingnut or trapped nut to make it easy to attach to a stud on the end of the shaft). Any ideas?

I dunno, sounds like a good time for the EZ bridge....http://www.seyberts.com/cue_accessories/bridge/index.htm .

While that may work, I'm stuck with a traditional style bridge, because that would screw me up, mentally.
Having a telescoping handle that fits a shaft tube solves another problem for me -- there's an empty slot in my 2x4 case, and that bothers me. :)

Haha, i hear that.....well, do they make telescoping bridges? You might have to custom make one or something...find something that already telescopes and modify it so a bridge can go on the end.

Go to a golf shop and buy a ball retriever. You will have to find one where you can take the cup for the ball off and epoxy a ferrule to the end. These extend way longer than you will ever need and they are a lot less expensive than the functionally same product I've seen advertised in pool magazines.
After that, you can use any bridge head that is designed to fit onto the end of a cue. I have a Spinelli moose-head bridge head that works very well. It does not tend to mar the cue shaft, the grommet does not seem to stretch (at least in the 2 1/2 years I've owned mine) and the low part of the head is in the middle.
I use my bridge head on my break cue or on a jump cue. Both work well and you might be surprised how handy using it on a jump cue can be. Incidentally, when I say the grommet does not seem to stretch, I have used it on a 14 mm lucasi jump cue and one a Frog but it still grips firmly on my Z-shaft.
