I glanced and saw that on a newspaper.. I thought it was one of those tabloid papers and brushed it off as B.S. Was sad to find out it was in fact real.. :(

it is a horrible situation over there. groups have already pledged millions in disaster relief and the us has offered to send troops from a neighboring base... i hope that the situation is taken under control as soon as possible...

I think the best way would be to evacuate. There's not much you can do against that.

For the moment there are 55,000 casualties :!: :!:
This number will surely rise
In order to keep from plagues to burst all over, they will start to put the dead in mass graves, a lot of those poor souls will be lost forever with out knowing if they are dead or where they are buried.
This a sad, sad time.
that area used to be a heaven on earth and in a split of a second it turned into hell.
My heart goes out to all the families who lost there loved ones.

I hear the death toll was 33K confirmed dead and they expect to find apx 40K but who knows. What a Terrible tragedy. I can hardly imagine a huge 30-40FT wave wiping out everything in its path.

I remember how strong the currents were with 1-2ft waves i cannot even imagine how something with that much force would feel.

An Excerpt from an article in todays NY Times:

When Nature's Wrath Is History's Reminder. By DENNIS SMITH

In 1958, an earthquake in Lituya Bay, Alaska, caused a landslide into the ocean that created a tsunami 1,720 feet high, a wave that could have swept over the Empire State Building. Fortunately it headed into a wilderness area and did not travel across the ocean to Hawaii or Japan.

What i kind of find weird, is that it was a religious holiday that alot of the people there practice (forget which one). And the ritual is that you go out into the sea to cleanse yourself....so these people go out into the sea to be cleansed by god and a 40 foot tidal wave comes at them...yikes.

It had to be terrorists, right? Im surprised one of these IDIOT Islamic Jihad groups would claim responsiblity for it.

On September 11, 2001 First of all i woke up at EXACTLY (no shit) at 9:00AM (Start work at 8AM so i am late). So i know im late already so i sort of take my time. I slowly start getting ready and at about 9:10 or so just after the first plane hit I turned on the TV not knowing a thing. I didn't think much of it thinking it was a horrible ACCIDENT. So not really paying much attention I happen to look at the TV and see the Second plane hit and Explode. I sware i took a step back and sat down on my bed in disbelief. Keep in mind of the many quinidences happened that morning.
1. I was late to work (had i not been i wouldn't of seen it LIVE)
2. I happen to turn ON the TV (Out of 365 days of the year i turn the TV on in the morning about 10 times out of 365, I just get up and go)
3. I happen to look at the tv at the EXACT moment that the second plane hit
4. A year later EXACTLY i met my girlfriend and have been dating since.

im not sure why i just told this story I guess I was just reminded of our Tragedy as a NATION.

Anyone have a story about themselves or someone else pertaining to 9/11

I remember that it was on a tuesday because on those days back in highschool we had late arrival, and i had a math test that day that i failed...i woke up and got downstairs and watched tv while i ate my ceral, normally i just read the fry's ad, and while im watching i see the second plane hit, and i remember whoever was giving commentary on it stops and says "oh, oh god, another planes has hit"....that was my 911 story.

I am not an American but that day (it was night here) my sister called me and told me to watch CNN as a plane hit one of the twin towers. As I was listening to the commentator, a plane slowly emerged at the background and slammed on the other building. I was staring at the TV with disbelief. It felt like watching a movie. It literally took me a minute to accept that it was real.

Again, I am not an American but I felt that such thing should never have happened and should never again.

Dont worry Ceb... I do not consider 9-11 simply an attack on America. It was that, but something more... It was an attack on human-kind... Believe me more than Americans died in that attack. Phillipinos, Japanese, Russian.. Not only American citizens work there, many many foreigners did also... I am sure you lost a few of your countrymen.

So not only was America attacked. The acts of terror were up close for every human alive..

I was planing to be in New York on Sep. 20th., on Sep 11th. when it happened I was on my way to the American Embassy to get my new visa... of course I didn't get it, they close the embassy down that day and getting a visa was imposible for the next few months, I was sitting at home watching it over and over on the t.v and couldn't belive what I was seeing, I have a lot of friends in NYC and some of them worked in that erea, the phone lines were down and I couldn't reach any of my friends for 3 days. I lost one friend that day, he was missing for a very long time, he was the happiest guy I've ever knew, always smiling, I never saw him get angry at anyone.
funny thing is that I was in those buildings hundreds of times and each time I felt like it's the safest place in the world.

That's right Skor, I forgot you had lived in New York for a while. I am sorry you lost your friend to that.

It is very strange. I did not personally know a single person that died there. But I felt like I knew every single one of them, and I was angry and sad for every single one of them.

It will be difficult, I think, to say to anyone Happy New Year when 2005
will begin with a tragic disaster already in progress and evolving for the
worst as each day ends.
