Just wondering what size lighting I should get for a 9" table. Most of the box style lighting seems to only be around 40" long or so. Will this give proper lighting for a larger table without shadowing or hot spots?

If I go with the shade style lights do I need 4 fixtures or is 3 enough? I would think four but most of the lights I see around are only 3. Is this just because there are more 7 & 8 foot tables in the home?

I saw the other thread about using the flourescent versus incandescent and will probably go with Flourescent bulbs.

To get the best and most even light am I better off with the Box style?

Thanks!!!!

I prefer the type of lighting that Diamond and Brunswick offer, they give the best results without any dark spots, but they cost a lot. It is realy up to you, what type of lighting do you like ?, what will look best for your game room ?. a 3-fixtures can be enough for a 9ft. table but a 4-fixtures will do even better.
Check this link, the have a lot of 4-fixtures

But before you shop there, ask the nice people of SEYBERTS what they have to offer you, I'm sure that their prices and service will beat the others

I just checked Seyberts Pool Table lighting section that could be found here
http://www.seyberts.com/table_accessories/lights/index.htm

they offer all the lighting fixtures in either 3 lights or 4 lights

More important also is how high you hang the lights.. It should be high enough so the table is lit all the way around, but not so that the bulb can be seen while shooting and distracts... Typically mounting the lights eye level is decent, that is what I did..

Eye level seems too low to me, but I am crazy so.....

That's because you are only 5' 2"??? :-P

If you hang it much higher than eye level, then ya see bulbs.. Bulbs are ugly.....

5'2"?? Hahaha, nah man I am a little taller than that! But....but.....I would use nice looking bulbs like those GE soft whites or whatever lmao.

I like those spiral looking bulbs.. Maybe those would be cool!!! I think they are made by phillips or something??

Speaking of lights.. Best flash lights ever = SureFire... www.surefire.com...

I am sure Fury could appreciate such lighting tools... :)

I would get an industrial lighting that have the long fluorescent lamps these type of fixtures have great reflectors that would cover the table better then any bulbs and would probably consume less electricity, you can paint them to match your room and they will cost less then most the good billiard lights availabe.
I read somewhere that the measurement from the top of table to the bottom of lights should be 31’.

I agree with Skor. I have a pair of 8' florescents with ice cube shades. The ice cube shades keeps the light out of your eyes. The more light and less shadows is ideal.

I should of mentioned that my lights are mounted to my ceiling. My ceiling is approx. 8'. These long florescence lights I have would not look good hanging.

I built one of these for my game room. It holds 2 - 8' light fixtures with two bulbs each. looks pretty good. If you have a real low ceiling, you could just mount it to the ceiling.

Sid,
That Diamond lighting fixture is the best there is in the industry but you forgot to mention that it cost $800 - $1500 dependes on the wood type ;)
Building somthing like this should not go for more then $200.
If you get an industrial one, it might not be the best looking one but it will do the job better then any "special" billiard light

I got my light from a bar I shoot at... It is one of those Budweiser lights with two bulbs.. Works decent, especially for free!! But those Diamond Lights look great!
