8 ball scratch

I play in one of the top VNEA leagues here in Canada and last night I had the most bizzare thing happen to me and I was wondering if anyone has ever had this or heard of this happening. I am usually one of the top 10 players in the league and at the time of this post (after 10 weeks) I am in first place in the top gun standings. Anyway, we play on a 4 man team and play each player on the other team once, well last night each of the 4 players on the other team sunk the 8 ball and incurred a loss of game against me while they were atempting to pocket one of their balls. Now I have had people lose the game to me on a foul before, but 4 straight games that I played.....this must be some kind of a record. Has anybody ever heard of such a thing before.

Sounds like some people have upset the pool gods... That is quite odd, but... The balls can roll funny for us all... Congrats on the current placing!

Two summers ago I went 6 in a row winning each one on an eight ball scratch or them knocking the eight in at the wrong time.

It happens. One of my teammates lost every one of his games one night by either scratching on the 8 or by knocking the 8 in early.

I've had nights where I run the table all four games, only to safe myself on the 8 behind one of my opponent's balls. It's all in the roll, and sometimes, it sucks.

Yep, the pool gods can be a cruel bunch of sob's sometimes.

I too have seen people scratch on the 8 four games in a row, but four different people doing it to the same guy in one night seems quite odd.

I could see them doing it intentionally if you were sandbagging, and they wanted to jack your average up. But if you're near the top of the league all the time, I take it you aren't sandbagging. Seeing that they knocked the 8 in while shooting at their own shots, unless they're really good at carom play, I would take it as fate.

As my teammate says regularly, "That's why they call them AVERAGES."
