I just read through the earlier post about break cues. It prompted a couple of quesitons.

1) Should a Break Cue be light (19oz) or heavy (21oz) ???

2) For 8-Ball, what is the proper break shot??? Head on from the center of the table? To the head ball from the side of the table. To some other ball in the rack?

Thoughts and comments would be most appreciated.

1. I prefer a ligther cue to break with; mine is 18 ozs. You can generate more "club head" speed than a heavier break cue. I also find it easier to control the cue ball on the break than with a 20+ oz cue. Some people will agree with me and some like the philosphy of heavier mass (cue) moving into the cue ball will transfer more power into the cue ball. I'm not a physics expert, but this what I "feel".

2. As far as positioning, I never break from the head spot. I break mostly one diamond from the left on the head string. I have the most success from that spot. If I start to notice that I am not having much success from that spot I move it left or right until I get some consistnecy in pocketing balls and cue ball placement.

Hope all this helps. Like with all things, it's all about preference.
Preference=stlye + feel + success
