Has anyone tried the new mcdermott shafts? I have a predator spwu with the z shaft and was wondering if anyone could compare it w/new mcdermott's intimidator shafts. I have been playing pool for about 10 years now and I have always played with a standard shaft Mcdermott. Until recently when one of my friends switched to the 314 and I saw how much he improved so then I wanted to get one but I wanted to try the z instead so that is what I got, but I am having trouble making the switch. If anyone has tried them let me know what ya think.

Lots of people seem to give up on the Predator line before a good trial time. I have heard of people's games improving in as little as a few hours or weeks, to a few months. Typically novice players adjust more quickly than veterans. If you have been playing pool for 10 years I would give it at least 6 months of good table time before making the decision to scrap it. Kinda like entering into a new job.. :)

I personally do not use a Predator shaft at this time. I am much more accustomed to a standard shaft, so I know what ya mean. But if ya give it a fair shake, you may see the difference. But then again, maybe not... But DO give it a chance...

As for the new McDermott shafts, we have just recently seen a bit of talk about them here. I think we have one poster here, Skor, who has tried one. But I may be wrong about that (It is hard to keep up with everything he tries out!) Quite honestly I am more apt to believe in Predators theories. They make more sense to me than throwing in a graphite rod and going from there. But, time will tell.. I am not an engineer, although I have a bit of experience in common wood bracing, and give tolerances. I like the idea behind the Predator. The McDermott, I haven't really thought too much about yet..

Give your Predator a good run man, dont count it out yet.. I think it may prove itself to you...

Not knocking on mcdermott, but i think the predator will give the superior edge. However, its how much of an edge it will give you. Ive had my predator for about 4 months now and i can honestly shoot about 95% the same with a good house cue. However, i can get more english with the predator easier...thats just me though. I think the mcdermott shafts are made somewhat like the cutec shafts except for there is a slight difference. But hopefully someone here has tried one out, so were not give all speculation here.

I didn't try the McDermott shafts and I don't think that I will in the near future either, So far I've tried quite a few McDermott cues I even own one but I can't say that I liked any of them, if I'll run into someone in the pool hall that has one of the new shafts then I'll ask him to try it, but I'm not going to go out of my way to try one.

BTW audio, your new avatar is my desk top background :)

So did the rest of us.

As for the new McDermott (or cuetect) shaft I have not had the opportunity to try one or gotten an opinion from some one I trust yet on how they play. But regardless of how these shafts particular shafts play, composites are the future. Golf clubs, tennis rackets, hockey sticks, try and find a serious player still using wood. The day is coming when the best performing piece cue will be made entirely out of a single composite (excluding tip) including the joint screw.

Yes I did, from the last time you posted that link :)

Dags,
this is not a composite shaft, the shaft is wood and there is carbon fiber inside it - "There is a carbon fiber "shaft" inside the Intimidator shafts. By putting this thinner, carbon fiber "shaft" inside of a standard shaft, you receive all the benefits of the carbon fiber. "

I guess I wasn't to clear. I realize the new shafts just have inserts. The point that I was trying to get across was that in the not so distant future the whole cue will be constructed from composites.
