View Full Version : Discoloration on 314 shaft

05-11-2002, 12:03 PM
I recently purchased a used 314 shaft on the internet. When I received it, it has some discoloration on the shaft. Probably from chalk. But, the discoloration stops about one inch (very evenly) from the joint.

Why isn't the discoloration all the way down the shaft? Any thoughts on cleaning or refinishing to eliminate the line?

Thanks in advance.

That's because it has some lacquer finish over the first 1, 2 inches or so near the joint. Try to avoid using sandpaper. Sneaky Clean spray works best, IMO. Or better yet get Q-clean products. You can get Q-clean here at Seyberts. Check it out. ME, I just leave the shaft with discoloration until it gets darker then I use Sneaky Clean.

But REMEMBER while it's discolored try to AVOID burnishing it. Just wipe it LIGHTLY with a clean cloth cuz burnishing it hard will close the wood pores and seals the chalk dust inside the wood and you will have a tuff time cleaning it with Q-clean or Sneaky Clean although it will take some of it out but will leave some of the chalk embedded cuz you burnished it. Then that's the time you use sandpaper but I would avoid it.

My advise...leave it alone but make sure to get the either products that I mentioned above when the time comes that you feel like cleaning it. :)
