Dime, more control, less deflection of the cue ball.

Best way to go is....... try both and see what you like best, there is not one type of shape that is better then the other, look for the shape that you feel that gives you better control.

I disagree, dime shape has been proven to be able to provide more control and less deflection. That is not to say that nickle will ruin your game, however.

Every one plays different...the only way to know which one works best for you is to try it.

I suggest you experiment with quarter, nickel, and dime shapes. Especially with draw shots.

I have dime on playing cue, quarter on breaking cue, and dime on jump cue.

For quarter shape, some molded plastic w/sandpaper shapers which come with cheap tip repair kits are actually quarter shape. Or use a 1" piece of PVC about 8" long cut in half with 220 grit sandpaper.

For nickel or dime, the best shaping tools I have found are here...
(I wrote the guy and said he should also make a quarter shaping tool.)
