Can I sand my mcdermott shaft down?

I have a friend who turned down his shaft from 13 mm to 12 mm simply by sanding it and the furrule as well.It looks nice though. Can I do that with my mcdermott shaft? How pros do it?

You can do it but it's best that you'll use a lathe to do it or let a pro do it for you, here at seyberts they can do it for you.
