Played some snooker over the summer and quickly got hooked on the game. I drove to Birmingham a few weeks back to check on a new Brunswick and the dealer tells me they don't make them anymore. Who out there makes a good 5 x 10 footer that is good quality, but reasonably priced? mike

I guess people don't play snooker like they did years ago. When we played over the summer, it was mostly the old timers playing. I'll check these out and see what they look like. Thanks for the info...mike

Smaller pockets, smaller balls, larger table (5 x 10)more defense and more skill. It makes pool seam easier when you switch back to it. Every group I played with had their "home" rules, but basically the game is all the same. It is more challenging that pool to me....

The first time I played it, it was like shooting pool on a football field....mike
I love snooker. Here in the UK it is still a bigger sport competitivly than pool.
Snooker tables are different in the States(10 ft by 5 ft).All snooker tables here are 12ft by 6ft.
It is a very different game and the Pro Players make a lot more money.

You would need a HUGE room for a snooker table.. My 8' table just barely has no dead spots for shooting...
well, the best snooker tables are made by Riley (http://www.rileyleisure.com/) but they don't have a dealer in the U.S as far as I know.

The official IBSF snooker rules can be found at : http://www.ibsf.org/index.php?rules/snooker.php~contentframe
the game is very different then pool and I don't think that it's fair to say which game is harder, there was never a pool player who won the world snooker championship, and there was never a snooker player who won the world pool championship (althgough they try :) )
the games are very different.
No snooker champion has won the Pool world championships.there is a lot more money in snooker.
Drago and Davis have done quite well though.
Tony is one of the nicest persons that I've ever met, and one of the fastest players in the world, I would love to see him in a match of 9ball with Luc Salvas, a race to 9 with these guys should last no more then 25 minutes
good money in billiards tournament is something that the billiard world is missing, if pool players could make a good living from just playing pool then pool players would stop gambling and the reputation of this spots will take a positive turn that will benifit everybody.
Where snooker is played, snooker players are stars, all the kids in the U.K know who is steve davis, but unless you're a real hard core pool fan, earl strickland would say very litle to you.

Snooker is indeed a hard game but then playing on a 5x10 pool table is pretty challenging as well.
Allison Fisher and Karen Corr to name a notable few, have made the transition from Snooker to 9-ball pretty well.
It is a shame that 14-1 continuous has fallen out of favor. Trying to execute a multiple rack run in a 5x10 requires a great deal of skill and concentration.
most of the tables in the philippins are 5x10, these are the tables that Efren and the rest of the guys from there practice on, the also play a lot a game called rotation (aka chicago), which is a great game to practice position play and ball pocketing.

I have never seen a snooker match on television...but have seen videos of Davis in some of his matches. I agree with Skor that there is not enough money on the tour to go around for the pros. And I agree that the gambling is the reason we still have a bad name. But, I don't know what the solution would be. I think Fisher, Corr, and Lee are improving the image of the game somewhat....and I don't think you will see them in a Ring Game in Johnson City...With the exception of 4 or 5 pros, there is no way to make a decent living on the tour. I would turn off the Super Bowl to watch a good pool match on TV.
. I would turn off the Super Bowl to watch a good pool match on TV.
So would I, but the problem is that even the industry people would rather watch the Super Bowl then to watch a pool match, one of the reason is the lack of action, we got used to watch pool in re-runs and late hours while football and the rest are live at prime time, When the world snooker championship is on, you can watch it live through out the day.
In the U.K Snooker is the second most watched sport on TV right after soccer.
