See ive been playing pool for years but always with 10-50 dollar bar cues and i really never thought of things like different brands or quality of tips but after watching a little pool on tv and checking out this site and seen that there are $3-4000 cues that blew my mind. what is the best kind of tip and how much does it cost. where can you get it?

Alot of people have really liked the Moori Tips. Another kind is LePro tips. I myself don't have any experiences w/ different type/brand of tips, except for LePro, and I kinda like it. I just haven't had a chance of getting another cue w/ a moori tip on it.

If you would look at the tip poll and there's alot of posts on what they liked and their reasons why.

yes some are expensive, some are cheap....it's all on one's preference.

More expensive doesn't necessary mean it's better...keep that in mind.

Thanks,

LePro-very affordable, good tip, but not consistent from tip to tip. Some would lose their shape, some would be harder than others, and some would seem to unravel when shaping them.

Moori-expensive ($25-$40) installed, great tip, holds chalk well, holds shape well, consistent from one tip to the next.

Talisman Pro-mid priced ($12 or so installed), best of both worlds, I feel just as good as Moori and affordable. I use Pro-Medium tips and it is quite a bit harder than a LePro. These are my observations over the years but you may find someone who feels differently. Gotta love that "what feels best for you response"..hope maybe this helps

Whenever i needed a Tip for my cue id just go to k mart and buy whatever they had. how much difference is their between a kmart tip and a proffesional tip.

I used to use tips from K-mart....and now that I've played pool for more than 5 years, I will tell you this....tips from K-mart or any stores like that...are *perfect* for children who are just starting to play pool or just to goof around. Altho if you want to be *good* at playing pool...get any kind of tips (Moori, Talisman, Elkmaster, Triangle, LePro and etc) but not the k-mart kind. I always had to replace the tip from K-mart mainly because it was just cheap one, and wasn't good quality..IMHO (In My Humble Opinion).

hmm..irony...I gave a tip on tips. Gotta love english. (the grammar..not the shoot method on billiard table)

Ya all have a great weekend! and Happy Mother's Day to you all Mothers :)

 How many years you've been playing pool? Tips from K-mart ARE garbage! Why K-mart? LOL. K-mart tip = people who have no clue what pool is. Professional tip = well for professional and players who knows what pool is. LOL@K-mart tip.

Moori - is good. The difficult 3 rail shots that you need a lot of english, this tip will make life easier (assumption that you have a good stroke). I can get a lot of draw and follow with this tip as well. It holds chalk well and keeps its shape.

Hercules - is pretty good too. I don't get as much draw and follow and english with this tip, but it's still gets good grade in my book. It also holds its shape pretty well and holds chalk decent enough.

LePro - I don't like it. You might like it, but I personally will never buy it again. If you like it, then more power to you because they cost $20-$30 less than a Moori !!! :D

Sumo - I hate these tips more than a LePro. Granted I've only tried one of these, and I might have received a bad one, but it shot horribly. It felt like the tip would slip off the cue ball. could not get any "action" on the cue ball. No draw, no follow, and the dayum thing would frizzle like no other. I will definitely NEVER buy one again.

I would like to try a Talisman Pro someday. I hear they are very good and a lot of people give good comments about these tips. I don't believe I've read a bad thing about them. They're not as expensive as Moori either.

Last comment : People often say that if the $20-$40 price tag on a Moori is not a big deal to you, then defintely get a Moori tip. Seeing how my cue costs more than $600 and I spend $40 at the pool hall from time to time on hours played, $40 on a Moori tip installed is not such a big deal to me. Then again, as they say, different strokes for different folks!

Hope this helps! Good luck.

drop the extra few bucks on a moori, its reliable and plays excellently, otherwise whenever ypou miss a shot you'll probly kick yourself and say you shoulda bought the moori.

I am totally fed up with the miscues with the moori on my 2k-2 which doesn't seem to take chalk at all well. I have recently bought a BK breaker from Seyberts and feel a lot better playing with that during normal play. Do you reackon that the moori tip I have might be duff?

That is not a Moori tip on the BK, it is a Hard Tiger tip.

Griff

The Moori is on on 2k-2 not my breaker. Any ideas what the most popular type of Moori is? Medium? Medium-Hard?

I had played with a Moori Medium tip on a Predator shaft for a while and I was impressed with how well it did hold chalk. I bought a Predator 2K1 and had a Talisman Pro Medium put on it. I like it so will keep using it vs the more expensive Moori. Both seem to hold chalk very well though.

Maybe it's the chalk that I am using because unless I chalk the cue very well then I can see the tip's surface under it. Even then if I am not careful the chalk can come off while applying. I use green triangle.

IN regards to holding chalk. Sometimes you need to raise the leather of your tip. Take a prick tip tool (the best) and perforate the crown And add a small twist to slightly raise the leather then burnish the circumferance with a PORPER burnisher. Do this for every 5 hours of use and your miscue problems will virtually dissappear. Your stick will perform now!!!

Also it's hard to beat a lepro for preformance with price. After all Predator uses this as standard equipment on all there playing sticks
even there $1100.00 cue

well ive been shooting pool for quite a while now and i can tell you that the most important part of a cue is the tip. tru, some cue have a more solid feel than cheaper brands, but without a good tip, the cue is crap.
responding on the k-mart tip post...well if you feel a k-mart tip works for you..thats great...but if you've tried a moori tip...all your shots would be easier to execute (after you've gotten used to the cue).

cue hardness/softness is all on preference...the softer the tip, the easier it is to put spin on, but the draw back is that there is less control. the harder the tip, the more control you have, but you maynot have the same english effect. i feel its more important to have ball control than english "power", but thats my opinion. for reference...i use a predator with a med-hard moori tip...

This forum was a lot of fun.

If the guy from K-Mart is a hustler, he’s good. If not, here’s the best tip - go buy a book. In any case, I have a feeling he’s better than his cue.

30 years ago, my ALUMINIM cue was so gross that most everyone kept coming back to put money in my pocket - lot’s of players with better cues than games. The cue was great for throwing curves (maximum deflection) but sounded incredibly bad. Back in those days of low tech, hi tech was the books Capelle and I bought form the UC Berkeley book store.

I’ve decided to start playing again, so I’m getting 3 cues. I’m going to hold a 9 ball tournament between Lucasi with a fake Pred 10 splice shaft($200.), D Perry with his standard shaft($700), Pred’s 3k5($600) and Alcoa($5). All entries will have the following in common: same tip(LePro), same weight (19oz), and same player (me), except the Alcoa will have a 35yr old “K-Mart” tip.

Stat’s on all shots will be gathered, not just who won. Who do you think the smart money will bet on?

PS. I want to thank the guy for the new hustle line, “What’s a ferrule?”
