I've been on here for about a week, and I'm already a "game winner" LOL.

It doesn't take too many posts, huh!

Audio,
You have over 1000 posts in just about 8 months. Truly impressive.

Not to be critical of anyone, because I have been guilty on occasion as well, but this there are way to many posts without out any meat to them. And this topic is a great example of it. A whole thread of useless drivel. When Seybert's is considering trimming the database because it is getting to large I hate to think that some very good information may no longer be available because of frivolous "lol" and similar postings. If we could keep our question, observations, opinions and replies dealing with an actual subject not only would we be saving on the database size but we wouldn't have to wade through so much chaff to find the useful stuff.

But that is exactly why they created the general chit chat section of the board. Almost every forum on the Internet will have a similiar section for such things. It is just the nature of people with common interests to want to also discuss other life things and useless chatter that is off topic to the boards main focus. Some of the stuff I see on other boards, ls1.com, ls1tech.com, camaross.com, etc. is so totally obnxious it is silly.. So I just ignore those sections of the board unless I am bored..

It has been agreed a while back to keep the posts with no real information out of the other sections and in this one. And over the past few months I think that has gone well..

I dont discourge anyone to not post anything here unless it is offensive. Sometimes I like hearing peoples pointless rants, and sometimes people like having a place to have a useless rant. As long as the silly stuff doesn't outweigh the main topics..

I didn't mean to imply that we shouldn't have off topic discussions. I fact those discussions are some our liveliest and most enjoyable threads.

My point being that a posting should be pertain to something. Let me offer up one quick example:

Yeah your confidence level definitely increases when you have nice equipment. And that can definitely help your game..

The reply:

Yep yep yep yep yep

The first quote addresses a topic, the reply to that quote .... At least its not wasted ink and paper.

The subject of this topic, how many post some posters has, has no relevance to absolutely anything. When a poster joined or how many post a poster has is nice to know but it is displayed with their every post.

I have this site bookmarked so that my login is automatic and I come right to the "view post since last visit" and I find it some what frustrating to follow up on empty replies such as the example cited above. Besides the over all polite and friendly tone one of the reasons I joined and contribute to this forum was because of the few number of postings (compared to some of the other pool forums) that were a waste of my time.

Unfortunately some people like to talk just to hear them selves talk or the internet equivalent. Either way I find it gets very annoying very fast.

Yeah, I can understand the frustration with that. I have my car forums bookmarked the same way. Difference is they have 40,000 members, and hundreds who are actively posting junk..

Quite honestly I wish there was a way to customize member profiles so we could just what sections are included in our new posts search. When ya think about it, the functionality would be piece of cake. There are actually plugins for lots of board software that apply this..

This forum eventually deletes it's stuff. So does the shout box, they were created so that we could get to know each other or post something we find amusing and then not have to sacrafice our valuable information. But if you are concerned i am willing to pitch in money for maybe a spare hard drive for the server.

lol... The server and the software running this forum could easily handle 2000 times the traffic.... If anything the bottleneck would likely be bandwidth at the point... :)

I know it could, but what i think i heard rick or sid or deb say at some point was the alloted size for the forum was fastly getting used up.

yes, i did, but it really was only to slow the chit chat from the forum. I wanted to keep good posts seperated from the chit chat. There is a lot of good info up here and I did not want visitors to have to wade through tons of chit chat to see what mm a Predator shaft is. I have since set up the chit chat section and it has helped quite a bit. I have been trying to set up a modification to this board that would noitfy people of posts to specific forums that they could subscribe to, but with the new version of the board it does not work and I cant figure the darned thing out. I have had up for a year or so a section in your profile that you can check to have a e-mail sent of all new posts. This is what i use to read posts to the board. There are so many posts that if I am short on time I will skip over the chit chat secton. If i get some time I will try to update the board and implememt the subscribe to a forum e-mail notification once again. I keep waiting for the author to update the mod to fit newer versions of the phpbb bulliten board but he has lost interest in the mod (i beleive) and a modificaton like that is way over my head. We will figure something out.

I say who cares what people say or want to talk about. Its freedom of speech and if someone wants to talk about nothing so what... No one is forcing you to read it.

I'm guessing Sid might care, if the bandwidth is getting eaten by non-pool stuff.
