View Full Version : My thoughts on my Viking and Lucasi (NEW!!!)

So I received my Lucasi last Thursday and my Viking today in the mail. Boy was I excited. At first I thuoght the Lucasi was better looking going by the pictures, but boy was I wrong.... when the Viking came in today the beauty of the inlays and the way they reflect off lights is simply AMAZING and I actually prefer it's more "natural" unique look to the cookei-cutter Lucasi.

There's pics btw.

I tried both of them out for more than an hour just hitting balls, hard and soft. The Viking to my surprise feels like a toy compared to the Lucasi. The Viking's shaft in the first place seemed a little weaker and felt "rough" in a sense, while the Lucasi's was beautifully smooth and slick as can be. Lucasi wins hand down here, especially when I use a closed-grip--the way the Lucasi's shaft feel is just twice as good.

Now for the hit--the Lucasi's hit has a deep, solid, powerful sound, but surprisingly soft at the same time which I was surprised since the Uni-loc joint is supposed to deliver a hard hit, I thought. The hit of the Viking is a litttle more high-pitched, definitely a lot less solid, and felt rather flimsy compared to the Viking. It reminded me of the way cheap cues hit... :-/ Either way, if I am wrong about thiese speculations, and the Viking's hit is actually the preferred one, I think that personally I like the Lucasi's better (but do let me know what kind of hit is considered "good").

This is strange since I at first thought the Lucasi was much better looking but would be of lower quality in terms of feel, but what actually was the case was that the Viking looks much better in my eyes with stain and custom look of the pearl and rings by the joints (ohhhhhh mannnnnn) and plays a little worse i.m.o.

I am still however a n00b and these are the first two sticks I've tried besides my Cuetec split diamond and perhaps my views on these sticks are distorted. My attraction to the Lucasi however is not based on its looks beacuse now I rate them evenly in that department.

Can it be that the Lucasi LE-16 is one of the higest end Lucasi's so has much more detail put into it, despite being a Lucasi which has a reputation for being "cheap"? This Viking is a limited edition, and looks beautiful as well, but maybe not as much care was put into its construction because it was not mass-produced like the normal models? Maybe it was poorly constructed and thrown together?

Every company can make a bad product every company can make a good product but to fidn the one that suites you best is through trial and error such as he just did , now yes the viking may out live the Lucasi but its all in cue care ive had a Lucasi SP for over a year now and its still going strong no wigns of damage or warp . but of course i take care fo my things . Im glad you found what suite you best like ive said before its doesnt matter where it cam from or how much it costed if it performs exactly and above what u need thast all that matters.

Play with what you like. Don't let anyone else influence your decisions. There's a guy who plays in my league who has a cheap (around $20) cue, and he beats most players. I asked him about it (tactfully, of course), and he said he got the cue as a present once, and played with it just because of who had given it to him. Now, he likes the feel of it so much, he wouldn't use anything else.

I've owned several different cues in my life, and I liked the feel of the Lucasi. I like my Predator better, but that's just because it fits my game.

The Viking you purchased has an implex to implex joint. That joint type typically hits very soft and if you are not used to it, it can feel flimsy and cheap. After some adjustment though you can get used to it, and you will find it offers a great deal more feedback than other joints. However, this is personal preference. Some people like the soft hit while others do not.. If you prefer the hit of your Lucasi then go with it. That is definitely most important, that you are comfortable and the cue feels good to you...

If you are interested you can check out the different Viking joints available. You can typically customize any of their cues and select which joint you prefer.. http://www.vikingcue.com/pages/cues/joints.htm

Take care of which ever cue you decide to keep. Keep it out of extreme temperatures, always keep it in a solid case. Don't let everyone and their brother shoot with it, no one shoots with mine except me.. No one will take care of your cue the way you will...

Enjoy your new stick and go shoot some pool! Congrats on your purchase, it is a good feeling owning something you like!! :)

Thanks Mr. Audio Professional. I think I'm gonna chalk both sticks and play with them extensively (carefully of course) so I can further evaluate them..... at first I was concerned that I couldn't sell it for as much, but, I think I'll be ok. =)

Once you chalk it you lose value. If you are going to chalk one you might as weel see what it can do.
