I have been playing pool for about 5 years now and i have grown to love the game over the years. I really never had any quality cues or pool table for that matter. Im getting relitively good now and would like to get a nice cue. My question is what type of cue and how much do i spend? I have very little money so it is out of the question to spend more than $200 which to some of you im sure your saying you cant get a really nice cue for that price. but this is my price range and i want to get the best stick possible for the price. I'd rather spend $100. Please leave your input im not sure what to do. I dont want to buy some crappy 69.99 stick i want a quality cue at a low low price. what do you think?

Sonnic, IMHO you should strive for what works not what looks good. Since you are on a limited budget, why not get yourself a decent cue and put a Predator Shaft on it. Pay particular attention to the joint threads......on the cue of your dreams (the one you'll buy later)......then get a basic cue (no fancy designs) with the same joint size as this......and later you can interchange the shaft providing the outside diameter at the shaft is the same.

For example, the most popular joint seems to be the 5/16 x 14 which fits on Schons, Joss, Falcons, older Pechauers (the new ones have a custom 5/16 x 14 joint that Seyberts can fit a Predator shaft to), any older Pechauer etc.

FYI......I recently purchased a Pechauer from Seybert's with a Predator Shaft. This same shaft fits on my older Joss and will fit on any Schon.

FWIW......Seyberts can probably get you just about any production cue you want even if it is not on their website......give Sid, Jason or Rick a call......they'll help you.

Please do keep in mind the Predator Shaft will take most of your budget......and good luck.

Sonnic,

I was once in your same shoes, except the fact that I am employed by this company. I had been playing pool for few years, just never had my own cue...was always borrowing my brother Ray's cue or my brother in law Robbie's cue....

I finally ended up buying a cue within my budget...it is a Viking VM36. I played few games and it is a good brand, and I really liked their work as well as how it handles.

I plan on buying a predator shaft for my VM36 down the road.

If you want a good brand but w/ reasonable prices....Viking cues is for you.

Primetime is right, we do have other cues...we just haven't had chance to put them on the website. If you are interested in what other cues we carry, just e-mail me at deb@seyberts.com and I will be more than happy to name the brands and prices to you and we can go from there. (If you want pictures, I can just take pictures as I am getting the cue prices for you and send it along your way.)That way, you can print out the e-mail and look at it and think about it instead of trying to remember what the guys said on the phone. :)

If you are really into pool....save your money and get a nice cue.

IMO, you have to spend at least about $300...otherwise...you end up w/ a mediocre cue.

If you want to save money, get something w/ few decorations...but don't give up on quality. The best cues I've ever hit with are schon and predator. They are worth your $$.....

If you insist on $100 or so. Try a low end viking, players, or action cue. They aren't bad cues.

Since your budget is about $200, I would recommend any Meucci, Viking or McDermott (in no particular order) in that price range if you prefer wood/wood joints. If you like the steel joint, Lucasi's are OK and they are quite stylish. Sneaky Pete's are good cues and there are a lot out there that would suit your style of play and budget. Bottom line is you DON'T have to spend $300 dollars for a good playing cue. It doesn't do you any good to play with an expensive cue if it doesn't suit you ("feel") or your style of play.

Sonnic,

Once you have selected a cue that you like, you might want to try one of the auction services ... eBay or Yahoo ... and look for a used one. There are a lot of used cues out there, and if you want to upgrade to a Predator Shaft at some point in the future, the auction approach might be very worthwhile.

Just a thought .....

What I have found as a good cue for someone wanting affordable is a players... I have used them a couple times just to see what they are like and feel as nice as a Viscotti or Lucasi... here is a site that you can check to see how nice they really look and they only run $80... it is quite a good deal... check the 3 bottom cues on the page

please excuse me if this is not allowed (posting other sellers) but I'M JUST Trying to help a guy out.

Thanks

Sonnic,

Do not know if your still looking for a cue but I hit with an Action and what a nice hit. I could not believe how good a $70 cue hit. I compaired the Action to my buddies $400 WW custom and they hit equal. Now the Action might fall appart next week but it impressed me. Let us know what you get.
