Can anyone reccomend a goood video or book on shooting techniques.
I'm having trouble lining up shots,do I keep my eye on the cue ball, the object ball or the pocket.
I'm making the shots but i'm never consistent.
1. Videos and books are nice, but they are not as good as working with an instructor, if you realy want to improve your game then that's the way to go.
2. Keep your eyes on the ball (the object ball) :)
3. you can find out more about books and videos in the "practice makes perfect" section of this forum.

Thanks and remember,

unless you work at the pool hall at nights :)

I read somewhere that Ralf Souquet looks at the cue ball instead of the object ball....against most teaching.....but this man can really play. I just wonder if there are others that do this. Anyone know? mike
Have you ever did the "look away" shot, when you get down to the shot, aim and once you get a few practice strokes you look into your opponent eyes and shoot, basicly it's the the same thing, when you aim, your eyes should move from the CB to the OB as well you should do it while you do the practice strokes, this to make sure that you'll hit the CB at the point that you wanted to hit it, moving your eyes up and down between the 2 balls (or the 2 points of contact to accurate), then you actually moving your eyes along the path that the CB will take, this is the "right" way of doing it, but you can't argue with something that works.
just note these things:
1. when you're throwing darts, you look at the board and not the dart.
2. when you play bowling, when you throw the ball, you look at the pins and not at the ball.
3. when you fire a gun, you look at the target and not at the trigger.
I can go on....
Why should pool be different?

I had basciclly the same problem, some people said I should consentrate my eye on the CB and others say the OB.
I was also told to line up the CB and the OB and keep my eye on the pocket.
Needles to say I was confused and that goes back to the original question of books or tapes.
I did like the idea of taking lessons but I wouldn't know where to go.

And ill add too, when you shoot a puck you look where you want it to go.

Well, you live in NYC, go to corner billiard on 4th. Ave. and 11th. street
Fran Crimi runs the American Billiard school over there, she is a BCA Master Instructor, check out this link for more info:

Took your advice and contacted Corner Billiards, just waiting for some info.
I'm hoping this improves my game and I can become a little more consistent.
Thanks
BTW, here is a picute of Ralf Souquet as he's about to shoot, to me it looks like he is looking at the object ball and not the cue ball.

For a long time I looked at the cue ball...not knowing any better....then someone asked me about it and I changed to looking at the OB....I couldn't believe how much difference it made.....although I am still awful 8)

Just to instigate some trouble.... here's an article at http://www.insidepool.com/News-catid-3.html (bottom of the page) about watching the cue ball instead of the object ball when you shoot to improve position play. To be fair though, it's directed towards people with no trouble aiming.
