I recently purchased a Lucasi cue that came with a Triangle tip.
Is this a good all around tip and is it good for improving ball control.

Also could someone explain the difference between hard and soft tips.
Does the hardness affect the life of the tip and control.

I'd like a reccomendation on a good all around tip.

Also is it wise to get a extra shaft and have one soft and one hard.
Thanks

As a general rule a hard tip will have a longer life span than a soft tip. Soft tips can be a little more forgiving when applying english with less chance of a miscue. Because you can strike the cue ball farther off center with a soft tip you can generate more spin with a soft tip but in the real world you should be able to get all the spin you need with a hard tip. Besides durability, another plus for hard tips is that control of the cue ball is easier.

Personally I like the Talisman tips (Pro Medium, Pro Hard, and Water Buffalo Medium). The Pro Medium would be my recommendation for most players, at least until they get a lot of experience under their belt. The Pro Medium offers a good combination of control and spin at an attractive price.

As for an extra shaft it depends what you want out of it. If you want to have a back up in case of an emergency at a tournament go with identical tips on both shafts. I like to play around with different tips so I use the extra shaft to experiment with.

I have on order a couple of Kamui tips. Give me a month or so and I will let everyone know what I think of them.

dags, I look forward to hearing what you think about the Kamui's.. I've read a few posts about them, but not from anyone whose opinion holds much value.

As dags said, hard tip will last longer, but when it comes to the question of which is better, well this is up to you, you should experiment with different types untill you'll find what works best for you. I don't agree with dags about his statement "hard tips is that control of the cue ball is easier" because different players have different strokes and the might find it easier to control the cue ball with different tips, I for one find it easier to control the cue ball with a tip of medium hardness.
