A jump/break cue is one that has a butt that separates into two pieces, leaving a short handle to make the cue the same length as a dedicated jump cue. I use a Lucasi jump/break cue, but only because jump shots are illegal in the leagues I play. I need the shorter handle for some bars where the wall location is less than optimal. If you are going to be jumping the ball, get a jump cue. You should have a separate break cue for the simple reason that it saves on the tip of your playing cue, if for no other reason. Some swear by different break cues, like the Predator or Sledgehammer. Your break cue should typically have a very hard tip, which may or may not be good for a playing cue.
