I have always heard you are supose to lightly hold the cue, but how exactly do you hold it? Well when i was at the midwest classic this past week i was talking with Kim Shaw and i happen to ask her how she holds the cue. She said this "Put your cue on the table and pick it up and thats the grip you should use." It sounded like a good tip but when i got home i tried it and I just felt that I was holding it with my finger tips instead of in my hand. What do you guys and gals think of the grip? Do you hold it light or tight? 2 or 3 fingers or the whole hand? I think i understand the grip pretty well but i want to see how everyone else does it.

My grip changes depending on the shot. But in general I hold it just tight enough so it wont slip, and that is about all. I rarely hit with a lot of power and for the most part am a finesse player. So not only is my grip loose, but so is my entire arm. Things flow more naturally when I dont use a death grip.

I use a light three finger grip, which then changes to 5 fingers when following through the ball. It is the grip that Bob Byrne teaches. I also have a flat but firm wrist.

The best advice I ever got when I first started playing was from my father, he told me, "Hold the cue like it's your pecker and your taking a leak" That seemed to work out since I dont have a "Death Grip"
hahaha that's funny but that's true....I have heard it being said to few fellow poolplayers.

Hahaha, that should keep you from squeezing too hard that is for sure!

A light grip...When I find myself shooting horrible...I usually notice I have tightened my grip too much...I think after making a few bad shots, I'll tense up and want to squeeze the cue. 8)
When I first started to shoot pool, my grip was very tight, all efforts to loosen up didn't work. One night I saw this pool hustler holding a chalk between his fingers while shooting, I tried that the next day and I played like that for a while, it did the work !!!, since the chalk is there you can't squeeze your grip so you end up with a light grip, another advantage to that little trick is that you always have a chalk around ready
I still do that from time to time if I feel that my grip is too tight
the grip looks like this :
Although it may seams that I grip the cue too hard, I actually hold it only with the thumb and the first finger

I can't see it, waaahhhhh!!!!!!!!
Fury, you should realy talk to your system admin. or who ever is incharge of the firewall, blocking .jpg is too much, if talking doesn't help then take him to a dark corner and test one of you golf clubs on him :)

Okay, I will make the site that hosts the pics available on port 80, the normal http port, also. That way no port change will be needed in the URL. Skor if you want go ahead and change the link and remove the :1000. I will have the site available in about 5 minutes.

Cool, looks like it would feel real weird though at first.
Sorry, didn't notice it was on port 1000, I will change the link in a minute.
It is weird at first but I got used to it very fast, maybe because I have big hands :)

I like how the watch band is coordinated with the cue.

Excellent, thanks Skor. Sorry for the inconvenience the port requirement may have caused. Everything should work fine now..
Thanks again! And I agree with dags, nice color coordination.

wow that is very different from anything i have ever seen.
So basicly you hold the cue with everything but the middle finger????
Looks kinda weird to me...

As I wrote before, it looks from the picture as if all fingers touch the cue, but in real only the thumb and the first finger are holding the cue.

I use a light grip and lose wrist (GREATLY - IMPROVE MY GAME)
(thumb and first 2 fingers)
A good tip I read on a book.
On your grip(fingers) - you should feel the weight of the cue
- if not then grip is too hard.
The lose grip - helps since it will behave as a swivel - as the cue moves back/forward. (limiting the impact on the stroke caused by steering of cue by the wrist.
Thanks,
Mpabon

Another - important tip that helped me this year - is that the momentum/force of the cue stroke - should be created by the weight of the cue. ( I try to remind my self - (stroke it , not hit it)

No wrap on cue - feels better to me - using a light grip feels better to me when cue does not have a wrap.
(hence , I mainly use my predator BK, no wrap to shoot)
The coating on the cue - seems to grip great on my fingers
- so I get a good grip - even with a light grip.
Thanks,
Mpabon.
