Can anyone recommend good instructional DVD's?

I'm ok on the basics of pool, but specifically need help on cue ball control.

Only have DVD player, so can't access most of the videos.

Thanks.

If you already know the basics no book or DVD is going to help. By basics of pool I assume you understand what happens to the path of the cue ball with draw stun or follow and how speed affects that path of the cue ball or how the cue ball comes of the rail. If that is the case then forget the DVD and spend your money on table time. And don't just pocket balls. Set up the same shot and shoot it over and over again with different spins/english until you know what's happening with the cue ball then move on to a different shot and do the same thing. Repetition is key to remembering and developing skills.

For some one new or just beginning to get serious about the game I think there is a lot of benefit to be had from instructional materials. I like books. You can lay them down on the table and set the shot without having to run from your living room to the pool hall or basement. Personally my favorites are Bryne's Standard and Advanced books. Every thing a player needs to know to become an great player is in those two books.

Check out your local library for pool instructional items. If they don't have them often times they can get them through interlibrary loan and if enough people show interest they might expand their collection in that area. From personal experience I have found that books are easy to get while videos are tough. The library is a great resource for the player that has a good foundation of knowledge and is looking for that extra gem but doesn't want to shell out the money for something that may not tell them any thing they didn't already know.

Pool is a pretty simple game. Knock one ball into another ball with a stick and try and put it in a pocket. But the myriad of possibilities is what makes the game so fascinating to play. It doesn't require a lot of knowledge to play a good game. It requires execution. And the ability to execute consistently comes not from watching videos or reading books, but only with practice.

If you want to refresh your basic fundamentals and learn more about cue ball control, then you've got to try The Billiard Sanctuary Academy of the Cueing Arts on DVD by Timothy White. www.billiardsanctuary.com or www.zimsrack.com

You might want to check out Jimmy Reid's DVDs at http://www.freepoollessons.com/video/index.shtml I found his tapes useful and I hear the DVDs are basically the same thing.
