View Full Version : Moori Sucks ??

04-18-2004, 06:59 PM
I had a moori placed on my z-shaft (p2 curly maple) and i dont like it a first glance...

With my lePro the chalk did stick very well.. With the moori is seems that it looses the chalk just where the layers go into oneother...

I like to have my tip rounded and then there are 2 rounds on the tip (where one layer stops and the other begins) wich do not hold chalk...

Is this just a bad tip ???

I have never had any of the problems you describe with my Moori M and I have played it for 10 months. Are you chalking after every shot or are you shooting 3 or 4 shots in between chalks? If you are used to shooting a few shots in between chalks you will need to wait until the Moori is broken-in after a couple weeks. To be on the safe side chalk after each shot, you are no longer playing with a comparitively soft single-layer tip! 8)

You might try sanding the tip GENTLY with 150-200 grit garnet sandpaper. Or, rotate the tip using one of the depressions afforded by The Ultimate Tip Tool - it offers both a nickel and dime radius.

I sanded the top with 200 grid and 120 grit...
I still does not chalk properly...

If you look on top of the tip you see 2 rings (where the layers end), like the year-rings from a tree, and it is around that rings that chalk does not hold...

I also used a tip-pik to roughen the top, but no luck...

Is it possible that it is because the moori is new, and i have to scrape another 0,5 mm off the tip ?

Are you still trying to not chalk after each shot?

no such problem with the Talisman med. It's been over a month since I put it and I did not have to do nothing since the first shaping, still holds it's shape and still holding chalk great

Sounds like user error to me, I doubt the tip is bad. If there is any doubt though, have it checked by a cuesmith.

No matter the tip, I've found a little mucus helps this problem tremendously. Just stick the tip, after you've wiped the excess chalk off of it, up your nose and spin it a couple times. Just like you're chalking the cue. It works wonders when it comes to having that thing hold chalk properly.

Chalk doesn't stick to the glue seams on a layered tip very well. I can see this on my shafts that have Talisman tips. Unless you got a tip where they got carried away with the glue this shouldn't be a problem. My advice to you, unless you are miscueing more than you think you should be, is not to worry about it.

I have used several types of layerd tips and did not run to such a problem on any of them

I think the blame wat to top layer.....

I sanded a little more and the ring wich does not hold the chalk becomes smaller.... (is the top layer)....

I think if i sand 0,5 mm further the top layer is gone and also my problem...

Greetings...

Keep you posted if this is really the case !!!!
