Is the dufferin sneaky pete phantom any good as a break cue?

I use a Viking Sneaky Pete VM29 for my breaks . I was happy with it until the tip came off. I had a Talisman Pro medium put on what a difference that made. My power went down a little but I much more consistently leave the cue ball in the center of the table. I don't own one but I have had the opportunity to use the Predator break cue, maybe thirty or forty breaks. It generates a lot of power but at the expense of control. IMO control is more important than power on the break. Don't like to have whitey running all over the table.

You want an great break cue. Get a Huebler AS-H2. This cue will almost break for you. It's incredible, the power, accuraccy and control obtained with this cue. Trust me, get one.
Although I have not (completely) tried it yet, I have a friend who swears by an original Schmelke Cue, with their #1 Joint, and a Hard Super Pro tip. He says, sand off the original Schmelke finish to increase flex in the shaft.
I use my standard (shootin) Schmelke for my breaks, and am quite pleased. It is the basic model with their #1 joint ... but their standard tip. As soon as I get a new shootin stick, I'll change tips and use my Schmelke exclusively as my break cue.
I use a few; it depends on my "mood". I break the same with all of them, meaning I don't vary my approach or power. I own a McDermott jump/break (use the most), a Cuetec that Earl Strickland gave me that has a custom shaft (20" taper and all wood) that breaks incredibly, a Lucasi SP with 5/16 pin that breaks OK (I like its hard tip) and I use my Predator 99-5 on occasion with excellent results.
The weights are 18,20?,20 and 19ozs. I like the McD because I can transfer more velocity to the cue ball. I like the Predator (with tiger medium tip) for control. Hope this helps. Like all cues, it's all about feel and style of play. I bought the McD with the break down butt to jump with, but I would break with any cue I own. IMO, I wouldn't buy ANY cue if I couldn't shoot with it (including the break).

And Wednesday night I sunk the 8 on the break in the first game of my match. So, something is working !!!

Anything heavy works for me.. Well, not that simple I guess. I use an el'cheapo Dufferin $35 POS (black 8-ball stick, two piece).. Its a 20oz, and its very stiff.. I peeled off the LePoo (heh) tip and stuck a Talisman WB (HARD) on it.. I have been breaking with this stick for a LONG time.. Its not warped yet, and the tip hasn't 'shroomed at all.
To a point, I dont understand why some people would spend over $100
on a stick they are just going to bust with.. Doesn't compute for me. :)
I use a Lucasi LSS-2 jump/break cue. Breaks great excellent control of the cue ball (if hit properly). Does not jump very well, FYI I use a Lucasi jump cue for what else jumping. The LSS-2 lists at $199 got mine on Ebay for $119 delivered. Have had no problems with it.

The dynamics of jumping a ball and breaking are totally opposite of each other.
For jumping a ball, you would want a cue with a high amount of deflection, and while breaking you want a cue with as little cue ball deflection as possible.
Your cue is the perfect example, it breaks well, but does not jump well.
I guess we now know why golfers have a whole bag full of ball whackers

A guy that I shot against on my league last night has a Predator BK. He let me try it out and I immediately fell in love with it. I'm going to get one in a few weeks. I'll be ordering it from Seyberts too because of the great service that I got when I ordered the 314 shaft for my Viking.
