I was wondering if the pros like Strickland and Fisher uses a custom wood shaft for their cuetecs.

Not sure if they are technically custom wood shafts, but I would bet that they are not the fiberglass or graphite coated shafts that normally come with the Cuetecs.

well cuetec doesn't make wooden shaft right? so doesn't it have to be a custom shaft?

earl and alison both use the regular sst shaft.
I've seen earl use sand paper to make it smoother, although it is bad for the shaft, I'm sure he has no problem with getting new shafts every now and then :)

The Thunderbolt shaft does not have the fiberglass coating, just the graphite truss down the center. The Python is the Thunderbolt WITH the fiberglass coating.

When ever I see Allison Fisher and Earl Strickland on ESPN I never see any Cuetec logo on the shat. All the Cuetec shafts have some type of identifier right above the joint. (sst, thunderbolt, python, vortex etc)
I really don't think they play with cuetec cues at all. If you watch Allison Fisher the butt of the cue is way thicker than the cues they sell. Cuetec cues are way thinner. When ever I see Earl however the butt of the cue looks like the ones they sell but the shaft looks way different.

It is all marketing and lies.

both Earl an Alison play with "off the shelf" Starlight cue from cuetec,
can't tell you for sure about alison's shaft, bur Earl is using the sst shaft for sure, I know that because I watched him play quite a few time and I was sitting right next to him and his cues.

I think when ya get to that level, you could hand either one of them a broomstick handle, and they would still give butt whoopings.. :)

we did something like that once,
one player played holding the cue with his left hand and the other played with the bar broom, played 8ball for beer, that was a crazy fun night :)

This is taken from www.allisonfisher.com

"Q. Even though you play with a Cuetec cue, do you play with it "right out of the box" or do you have your cues modified such as tips, shaft, taper, etc. and do you have someone local do your work for you?

A. I do use an out of the box Cuetec. All that I ask for is a 56 inch cue. The average cue length is 58 inches. Other than that I use a mori tip and a local guy named Kevin does my tip changing. "

Cuetec's website doesn't say how long any of the cues are, but another site that sells them said that the Allison Fisher signature series is 57"(which could be an inaccurate measurement) so she probably uses those cues.
