View Full Version : Selecting a 2x3 or 2x4 case?

What are some reasons for choosing a 2x4 case over a 2x3 case, or vice-versa? Is a 2x4 case larger and/or heavier then a 2x3 case? If so, is it very noticable, or just a slight difference?

If I have a playing cue and a break cue along with an extra shaft, that covers all the slots available in a 2x3 case. If this is what you carry in your case, did you select a 2x3 case or a 2x4 case (and if the latter, why)?

Do people use the extra slot in a 2x4 case for the shaft of a jump cue?

I'm just wondering what contingencies I should be thinking about for future expansion.

2X4 case. Shooting cue with an extra shaft. Break cue and shaft. Jump cue shaft in the remaining tube and the jump butt in pouch. Or you could go with a 3X5 case and put the jump butt in the case.

I use a 2x3 case at the moment: one playing cue, one break cue and a jump cue.
I think the optimal way to go will be with a 3x5 case: main playing cue with 2 shafts, secondary playing cue (one shaft), break cue and a jump cue :)

I have a 2X4 case that has my break cue and shaft, playing cue and two shafts and a jump shaft. Go 2X4, the weight difference probably not be noticeable and if you ever decide to get another shaft, you can carry it with you.

I have a 2x3 case. Play Cue and extra shaft and a break cue and shaft.

I can't jump, so umm.... uhh... No jump cue!!

If you got a jump cue though Audio, you would be abe to jump balls in no time. I have used my jump cue maybe 20 times now and I have sunk a surprising number of intended shots. I don't use the dart methodof jumping, I hold the jump like a jacked up cue, except for extreme close shots which I can't make yet anyway.

I really want to give it a try. One of my fellow players can jump very well and accurately with his regular play cue. So for a long time I thought a jump cue was not needed. Live and learn I guess. I have noticed several people found it was not so difficult once they got a jump cue.

First a new Moori tip for my play cue. Next will be el jumpo cue.

Well I was looking at the Instroke Geo 2x4, but bills took some priority as usual and I bought a Giuseppe regular 2x4 case! I think I will be happy with it as I am upgrading from the crappy POS soft 1x1 case that came with my cue!!!

Oh, and I bought some Cue Silk and Q-Glide to help out with caring for my shaft. 8O

Fury, I have a 2x3 Giuseppe case. I ordered it with Ortona leather pattern about two years ago. I absolutely love this case. The quality of workmanship is exceptional. Granted it is not intricate in design by any means. It is simple, no frills. But great craftsmanship. I dont think you will be dissapointed.

Thanks for the info, audiopro. That is all I really need, a no-frills and good quality case.

For you guys looking for a jump cue, go with the Lucasi. Cheap, but it works.

Bungee jumpers are cheap too aren't they? I think they are about the same as the Lucasi jump.

Guys,
Thanks for all the good feedback. I think I will get a 2x4 case at this time. Maybe I will eventually go to a 3x5 case, but I think that is a ways off for me.
I do like the look and "bang for the buck" of the new Instroke Geo cases. I'm going to seriously consider getting one of those.

I use the dart stroke when I jump, it is much easier and more accurate (for me) the the regular stroke, I can jump the cue over a full ball with a distance of 3 - 4 inches between them and make it "fly" the lenght of more then 4 ft.

Well, I am bummed that you didn't go with the Instroke but the Guiseppe is a good case and I am sure you will very happy with it. I just want to remind everyone that the Instroke Premier line is the closest to Guiseppe in price and still has all the great protective features Instroke is known for.

$179 retail for a 2x4 and of course less through Seyberts.

join the cult of instroke - we love you and your cue - instroke - instroke :-))

Take care,

John

I'm considering the Geo 2x3. I have my playing cue with two shafts, and my jump/break with one shaft. My concern is, if I buy a 2x4 (which I have now, but it's a cheap one that needs upgrading), I'll have the overwhelming compulsion to fill the empty tube. That's what happened when I had a 3x6.

Get the 2x3. I think the 2x3 is the best size because of it's form. It carries everything to play and it is comfortable to carry. It makes a smaller footprint than the 2x4 and most people can carry it comfortably in their hand like a 1x2.

The only reason I use a 2x4 is because I always have an extra jump cue with me.

On the jump cues....

My buddies (3 of them) got Bunjee jump cues and I ordered a Balabushka jump cue. I actually prefer the 'Bushka as it feels like a solid cue and it has a pretty funky joint, it is double threaded. I have a Lucasi jump cue that I am giving away at my tounament this weekend and it looks like a nice cue, but the tip looks to be too tall for a jump cue. I think all three of these cues would do the job very well.

After all if you are pulling out your jump cue for every game, you need to go back to the practice table and practice your shape.

John,
That is an interesting comment, just what I was looking for. I was wondering about comfort, carrying/transportability and interior fit comparisons between the 2x3 and 2x4 cases (along with my question about the utility of the extra tube that you get with a 2x4 case).
You make it sound like there is a noticable difference between shouldering a 2x3 case vs. a 2x4 one.
I currently don't have a jump cue and don't know if/when I will purchase one. However, if I get a 2x3 case and then later want a jump cue, then where do I put it?

Here is the configuration I would use for a 2x3. Playing cue with 2 shafts and a jump/break cue with one shaft. OR Playing cue with one shaft - Break cue with one shaft - and jump cue with one shaft and put the handle in the compartment made for it on the lower pocket of the Instroke case.
