I have a 3x7 black leather cowboy case. The leather on my case is not a soft, oiled leather like I've seen in some photographs, it has more of a grained print to it and it is firm to the touch.
I posted about the Buffalo case material differences and was wondering if there were a variety of these cowboy material differences out there too. When I ordered my case from Seybert's last year I was hoping to get something that had a softer leather in black much like the SilverStone series case are now coming in, but no dice.
Kept the case and it has served me well. Only wish the gold snaps and fasteners didn't tarnish so easily.

The Cowboy series does not use the oiled leather. There have been a few Cowboy cases made that featured soft leather but these were only because we were out of the normal stuff at the time. Because the supply of leather is sometimes wildly erratic it happens that the type of leather will be changed briefly.
One thing you might try is to get some leather conditioner and 'work' it for a few days. Just apply a light coat and work it in and repeat the process for about a week and you will see a big difference in how your case looks and feels. It takes elbow grease but the results are usually worth it.

John, thanks for the quick reply. I'm happy with the case, just didn't know if there were some cowboys with the softer oiled, smooth look.
Hi John of Instroke,
Just want to drop you a line to thank you in your description of the obvious differences of the desputed Instoke cases.
I found the case I want on ebay , and subsquenct research brought me to Seybert's board. I was going to purchase the case from the ebay store, they are very convincing, but after clipping their picture of the case and pasting it next to the Seybert's I can see all those obvious differences. The top pocket is larger, the large pocket is much smaller, and of course the front large pocket zipper open to the elements. They cost about $30 less than Seybert. On some other model they claim that those are custom made for them. Again, with the same differences.
Their 3x5 Instroke Buffalo:

Their 'specially made for them case':

The small pics are of one group, but the big pic show all the obvious differences.
I'll be ordering the 3x5 Buffalo Cowboy from Seybert, as soon as Sid give me the in stock check on a Curly Mapel P2 with the 'Z' shaft.
Thanks again,
Tat

I urge everyone to go with a reputable dealer that is tangible for ANY new product purchases. Ebay is great for bargains on some things and I buy and sell a lot on there. I don't make any major purchases that I can't afford to lose the money on though because it is almost always gambling on Ebay no matter how much good feedback the seller has.
The difference in price is generally also the difference in service. Do you really think that a guy who is selling for a few bucks over what he paid for something is going to want to invest more money to make you happy if the product is not right?
Lastly, EBAY is full of ignorant descriptions and outright lies. Especially about Instroke cases. There are only a few people who sell Instroke on Ebay that really know anything about them. The other ones just sell Instroke so they can drive traffic to their knockoff cases.
Seyberts will bend over backwards to service the customer. This is why they have had a successful relationship with Instroke for several years now.
Buy only that on Ebay which you can afford to lose is my advice. Most of the time it will go well and you will be happy but the one time you get royally burned will erase a lot of good memories.

John,
I got an answer from the seller when I email him about warrenty issue. His reply:
[TAT ,not a problem . My distributor is authorised . So I am a partner . You
are the first person ever to ask that question .

Just wonder if those are the 'German Instroke' case that you mentioned.

Who knows? He is using pictures of cases that haven't been made in over five years. He has ripped off the text from the Instroke catalog. There is not even a picture of what you would get because this case does not exist as a new case anymore.
How do you know that he is an authorized dealer? For all you know he might be getting the cases secondhand through a poolroom or something. He is certainly not an authorized Instroke dealer. Maybe, the guarantee applies through the distributer but how can you be certain?
This is Ebay. Any seller could be gone in an instant. What will you do then? At least Seyberts has a store with a million dollars worth of inventory. They have a signifigant investment in keeping you happy and have made a signifigant investment to be able to do so.
I wouldn't trust ANY Ebay seller who can't even be bothered to put up a picture that is current and who only plagiarizes the content of the manufacturer's website.
Just my opinion. And I do a lot of business on Ebay.
John
