I was just wondering about the quality of the schon company because i know there cues are rather expensive. Is the price just or just high? It seems like if you want a schon you will pay 500+ easy as where viking or mcdermott you can get one for a few hundred bucks. I guess my main question is how does Schon compare to Viking or Mcdermott?
Thanks,
Sonnic
it's a few levels up,
I've taken a few shots with it and it feels great, even the shaft is great, much better then any one piece shaft.
I don't like the feel of the Mcdermott at all and I've tried a few of them from different price range, the Viking is somewhere in between
feels much better then the Mcdermott but nowhere close to schon

You also have to look at the materials Schon is putting into their cues. The more rare wood inlays(ie. blood wood, kings wood) and other inlays(ie. abalone, ivory, mother of pearl) that go into the cue will raise the price.

I'm also wondering abouit their so called Elephant Ivory....how exactly are they getting these? I thought Elephant Ivory was illegal? Not that i'm complaining heck i want an elephant ivory for my cue
some of the Elephant Ivory comes from elephants that died natural death in zoo's in america that's why it is so limitted and cost so much
you can even get the raw matirial if you want to use it in art or building your own cue but the law does not allow to ship this ivory out side of the u.s.a

For an interesting discussion on ivory check out http://www.cuemaster.com/RSB/ivory.htm
Of all the players that I know that has gone to a Schon not a one has gone to something different for their regular shooting cue. To me that speaks volumes. Amongst the players that I know I am not sure I can say that about any other production cue.
As for myself I am 100% satisfied with my Schon. With the exception of a one year experiment with a 314 shaft, I have been using my
Schon in league and tournament play faithfully for about ten years now.

I have shot with many different cue brands always talking about "when I get the money I am going to get this Schon cue". I finally got it last November and I could not be happier with the quality of the cue(worth the money). As far as shooting...I am lucky to get one break and run a year in leagues...I have gotten 3 in the last 2 months. There is no way anyone is going to get the Schon out of my hands!!! :D :D :D

umm ok...but how many elphants actually die in america. It ain't no africa where there's abundant of elephants to go around. Mostly all of their cues have elephant ivory and they sure don't make one cue at a time, some of it are mass produce. I mean just look at the STL20 now that cue has alot of ivory. And also i myself haven't been to a zoo yet where the elephant still has the their tusk. Like a said i got nothing against them ivory, hell I WANT ONE MYSELF and i want a schon cue but the ones that i want i can't afford....at least not yet.

I purchased my first Schon a while back...see the LTD-627 post in here...and now I own 3. It is a great hitting cue and it's designs and inlays are distingished. You will feel proud owning one and you will play well whether you use the Schon shaft or get a matching 314 on it like I did.
One other comment, unlike many cues, if you keep your Schon in mint condition, it will hold it's value or appreciate...can't say that about many.

New kid,
How big is your cue collection now? As I have said before, I am very envious as I would be a cue collector as well if I had the cash....
It takes only one cue to play (and win)....and one more for the break....oh yeh one more for the jump
o.k It take 3 cues to play and win :) :) :)

Don't forget the second shaft in case you loose a tip on your playing cue. Let's see, now that's three butts and four shafts. Put the jump butt in the pocket of a two but four shaft case and I am all set to go. But now I need different cases to accessorize properly with the different outfits I wear. And now that you have these extra cases no sense letting the tubes sit empty so now I need more cues.
I know, it's kind of a convoluted logic but if anyone would understand it my wife should. I'll have to remember this next time I need to justify a billiard purchase.
I say if you're going to collect cue the COLLECT cues, save up and get the rare and limited cues, don't get a bunch of $200 cues and call it a collection.
in the Jan. issue of billiard digest there is a nice article on a cue show and there are some realy nice cues in there.
Although a cheap cue can be a collector item, I was in Cardiff for the world pool championship and I got a $20 cue and got most of all the top pros to sign it now this cue will be priceless one day :)

If I collected cues, it would be cues somewhat rare (ie. Balabushka), but mostly it would be for the craftsmanship and rare inlays/woods. For example, check out these cues which are amazing:

Most likely, if I had the cash, I would be opening my own hall and/or building my own cues. Unfortunately, I live in reality and don't have the startup so it is now a nice retirement idea.
If any of you have too much money and want to invest, let me know. :)

Those are real purrrrrrrrrty!!!!! 8O
There's no comparison. I've played with both...I've played with tons of cues.
I have a 15 year old Schon, and IMO it hits better than any cue I've ever tried, custom, predator...you name it. I do use a predator shaft though because of the decreased deflection, and you can get more spin with the predator. But the hit and feel of the schon shaft is much much better. I've played with schon's that are only a few years old. The hit is almost identical. Schons are worth every penny you pay for them. It's not just the name. Mcdermott, viking, and blah...they are only a name.
If the predator shaft had the same hit as a schon shaft while decreasing deflection and giving you the extra spin, etc I'd gladly pay $500 for just one shaft. The schon hit is so good, that you get an immediate confidence boost. Confidence counts for a lot when it comes to deadstroke.

true dat
Actually in my opinion, no their not worth the money. If you look at any schon cue - take a look at it's venear and inlay points, their all rounded very bad and you can tell that they were machine made. I have just bought a high end Mcdermott and yes they are machine made but have a finer quality in it's point and inlays and materials than any schon i've ever had.Plus if you look at the prices of some costom cues and there inlay, venear design compared to schon- I would never purchase another, plus to me they just feel cheap when playing with them.
