View Full Version : New Glue
Ok, I just ordered some sniper tips from you guys, thought I would try something different. Tired of the LePro's. I'm from the old school and always used Tweeten's cement and clamps. Now, I tried this rocket science glue with an accelerator that you guys recommended. Well, it works too damn good. Instant bond and instant MESS! How do I get that stuff off my ferrule?! Next time, I'll protect my ferrule with scotch tape before I attempt using that modern space age sh*t again. I am the proud owner of an LE-IX and don't like my ferrule looking like a grade schooler installed the tip. *laughs* Any suggestions?

I like to use the super glue gel, it's fast but not too fast so you can clean the ferulle, and it's fast enough so you don't realy have to use clamps, just hold it down for one minute :)

Personally, I have always used a little Mr. Clean to get my ferrule clean. I am not sure if that would work with glue or not, but it does a really great job from getting all that chalk off. If you try that, post something on here to let me know how you made out.

Hope you get an answer on this one Koko...that is the only thing I dread about putting on a tip....I use a damp cloth, but there has got to be something better....
don't put too much glue (super glue gel), just a bit in the center of ferulle then put on the tip and move it around so the glue will spred in an even way and then when the tip is it's place press it down with your thumb and wip the glue with a paper napkin, if you'll do it right and care fully there will be no glue on the sides of the ferulle, wipe the glue up in the direction of the tip, it's ok if you'll get some glue on the tip since you're going to cut the tip so it'll be even with the ferulle and you're going to shape the tip as well so doing that will get rid of the glue that was on the tip.
good luck :)

I use hockey sock tape to protect my ferrule before glueing. I find that the glue from the scotch tape leaves a sticky residue on the ferrule. The clear hockey sock tape goes on and comes off clean (I also use it to wrap paper around the shaft of my cue so the clamp doesn't indent the wood).
The glue I use is call Locktite Quicktite and I have not had a tip come off yet. Plus, it's easy to work with and doesn't get all over the place.

I too use the QuickTite and have had excellent results. I wrap my ferrule in masking tape, and if you are worried about residue you can always get the blue masking tape that is used for painting, it leaves no adnesive behind when it is removed.

Parrot:
By chance is that blue masking tape made by 3M and called LACQUER TAPE?
To remove Super Glue, use fingernail polish remover, but use it carefully and sparingly.

Yeah 3-m makes it, but I can't say I ever noticed what it was called exactly, I just know it's for masking without leaving a residue.

I only put the glue on the tip and spread it very thin and evenly on the tip with an awl. Then with the tip on the workbench I push the shaft down on the tip. This way the glue will not run onto the ferrule and if you don't use to much glue it will not be a problem when bringing the tip down flush with the ferrule. I believe it is Duro Super Gel that I use for a glue and I don't use any clamps. The glue sets up fast enough that that I only need to push on the shaft for a minute or so.

Koko,
I bought my hockey sock tape at Canadian Tire, which you don't have in the States. You should be ab;e to buy it anywhere hockey equiptment is sold. As far as I know, there are two kinds of hockey tape, the kind you put on your stick and the kind you put on your equiptment (ie. socks). If you just ask for hocket sock tape, the sporting goods guys should be ableto help you. It's great and it's cheap.

Usually at Home Depot, Lowes etc... where the rack of various super glues are sold, a super glue nuetralizer is also sold. Although I have never used it on a cue stick it works great for getting fingers unstuck :)

Acetone is excellant for cleaning superglue. Not sure how safe it is on ferrules. Acetone is the main solvent in nail polish remover. Probably the same stuff sold as super glue nutralizer. Acetone can be found in the paint section in most hardware stores.

From what I understand, pro-bond is the best for tips. I have been told this by a couple people. Once it is on, it is there.
With pro-bond, it takes 15-20 seconds to dry, so that is plenty of time to wipe off excess.
