lol ok seriously my rubber butt did fall off and is no where to be found, but thats not the reason for my post. I think there is something loose in my stick and maybe the joint. when i drop the cue on the bottom of the stick it makes a rattleing sound. The sound is hard to describe but basicly it just doesn't sound like what i would expect a viking cue to sound like. My first thought is the joint is loose but it doesn't seem to be loose but i just don't know. Then maybe it sounds like that only because my butt is off. Am i just over reacting or do i have a real problem?

Sounds like a loose weight bolt. By butt do you mean the rubber bumper?

yes the rubber bumper is gone. so you think that because my rubber butt being gone has loosened my weight bolt and it is the problem? So you dont think it could be the joint? How is the weight bolt secured? is it something that can come out?

The weight bolt is screwed into the butt of the cue. It can be tightened with the proper tool. Most likely a large Phillips screwdriver or the correct size hex head wrench. The rubber bumper may have trapped the sound or perhaps it absorbed the vibration and that could be why you didn't notice the noise before.

would something like that effect the hit of the cue? I'd think it would have to.

The weight bolt we use requires a 1/4" hex style tool to remove. Being that our weight bolt cavity is 8" deep it would have to be a fairly long hex tool. Depending on the weight of your cue their may be multiple bolts in it.

The loss of the bumper should have no effect of the bolt itself. When we install the weight bolts we put a bead of silicone on each one before it goes in to help secure it and to prevent rattling.

Now, a loose weight bolt won't affect the playability of the cue but it can certainly play games with your head. It becomes one more thing to break your concentration.

If the weight bolt is vibrating you are not getting the purest transfer of energy to the cue ball. How much it affects the cues performance I couldn’t say. As I have said before the auditory perception has a big influence on what a player considers feel and in your case this may be more annoying than anything else.
