A good source of info on thais this shot can be found in Byrne's Standard Book of Pool & Billiards or Byrne's Advanced Book. I am not sure wich one.

The advanced Byrne's book has an entire section dedicated to the masse' shot.

mike massey has a trick shot book which is just out.
there are many interesting shots in it.
i bought it and liked it. there is a section on masse' shots.
