I'm finally finishing my basement this coming Spring and will be able to put a regulation 4.5x9 in there. I am not schooled enough on what the various tables offer in terms of playability and would appreciate some discussions and opinions on this.
I play most of the time on Connelly Ultimates at my local hangout. Other places have Brunswick GC IV.
Some tables I've considered but don't have much experience on are Olhausen, Diamond, and Gandy. I don't want to make my decision on price, I want a great quality, great playing table.
What say you guys?

You guys recommending Diamond...is this what you typically play on or do you own one?
Anyone got any feedback on American Heirloom Pool Tables manufactured in Atlanta Georgia? Their construction looks incredibly strong and built to last...they use 1 1/8" slate and all real hardwoods.
The hall I go to has Olhausen, Diamond and Brunswick tables. I personally prefer the Brunswicks. The Olhuasens seem the fastest, but for some reason they are noticably shorter and seem cheaper. Although to be fair, I don't think the other 2 are the commercial grade models like the Olhausen. I doubt you'd be dissappointed with any of these though, so I'd pick the one that fits your budget and your decor.

A Classic Brunswick Centennial or a New Brunswick Gibson would be my first choices for a home pool room. Either way get the Brunswick Centennial Balls for the finest in playability

Brunswick centennial balls are only second to Super Aramith Pro balls.
Why have none of you considered the Gabriels?

I was considering Gabriels, but there isn't anywhere I know of where I could play on one...

You need to find one and play on it. I love the Diamond tables but I was spoiled entirely with only one hour on a Gabriels.
The one I played on had Artemis cushions and it was possibly the best table I have ever played on. It was located in Planet 9-ball in Tampa, FL.
Planet 9-ball also has two Diamond Smart Tables which play very well. Their pockets are almost exactly 2 balls wide and the shelves on the slate are very deep.
Both types of tables are very humbling because they require extreme accuracy and precision. If you can run racks of 9-ball on either, you are way above average.

If I had my choice, which I did, I chose A GCIV. I picked it up from a WPBA tour stop. I added a return to it and now have the table I always wanted. If you want to see a picture of it, go to www.cuecollector.com. He bought one too. My friend has an original GC and it is 40 years old. With a little upkeep it will last another 40 years. When you get to this calber of table, it is really personal preference. They all play great and will last two lifetimes with a little care. Get what YOU want. Good luck and let us know on your decison.

I like the comparisons listed between the Brunswick GC IV and the Diamond Pro. I didn't realize that the Brunswick had that much to offer.
I had heard that their quality has actually degraded...choosing poorer rubber for cushions and poorer quality slate (now from Brazil, not from Italy) to cut corners.
That Gibson table is sure nice.

I looked closely at Olhausen last night and was impressed with their construction and their warranty.
Anyone not like 'em for specific reasons? Other than I would be supporting a company based in Kalifornia?

I play on an Olhausen at a new "Sports Bar" where I live. The place is new and very nice. These are by far the best tables I have played on in any bar. I think they are great tables, and they seem to be of very solid construction.
If I had my way, I would probably buy an Olhausen.

The Diamond and that seems to be the consensus among the better players in my area.

Well, nobody has mentioned any that I would not have considered at all--basically it is going to be a Diamond, Olhausen, Gabriels, Gandy. I will more than likely put the Gabriels last for lack of dealers and the fact that the table is manufactured in Europe...it might be hard to get service or parts if I need them.

Anyone got anything negative to say about Connelly Billiards?
Their constuction seems very solid with 8/4 cabinets and they use 1.25" slate standard. The cushions are made by the same manufacturer in Europe that has been doing English Snooker cushions for years.
they are very nice tables

My friend has a nice Olhausen, they are top notch, very well constructed, thats who id go with if i were putting a table in.
Zach
If you like the 8/4 cabinet, you really should take a look at the dimension timber framing of a GC IV.

Brunswick is starting to cheapen their materials and they don't manufacture stateside anymore. I think they are moving off my list.

I've really only playedon crappy-assed Dufferins. I have played on the occasional Brunswick Gold Crown. From the limited research I have done into this, I think if I was going to buy a table, it would be an Olehausen or a Diamond.

Connelly Billiards is quickly moving to the top of my list.
8/4 wood cabinets and framing standard, 6" rail tops, 1 1/4" slate standard, all hardwood components in their top of the line collection, no veneers.
They also use the cushions manufactured in Germany for most of the snooker and carom world. Talking to their reps today a bit more.
Chris,I still like the diamond table.
I think I will get one shipped to Scotland.
very nice meeting you at the expo.
I ended up buying four cues from Mike Bear and one James White.

Sanj,
I've fairly set on the Connelly, but I need to give Dimaond a closer look. They sent me the name of the local representative.

Well, a Connelly Ultimate it is. I got the Coronado in maple with traditional cherry finish with dark green Simonis 860 cloth. Two head rails on the top and bottom so as not to lose a diamond for a logo.
Going to be great...it's about 10 days away!

Excellent, congrats on the purchase. I am sure you will love it!
I am trying to decide if I want to just recover my current table (cheap table) or by a new one.

I have heard that in some of the pro tournaments where they used Connelly tables that during some shots into the corner pockets the object balls were striking against the iron bar which is inside the back of the leather of the pocket and then popping out, back onto the table. I have not seen it happen, but during a recent women's tournament I guess a player had it happen to them.

Fury,
I have seen that happen actually on a local Connelly table at the hall I like to shoot in, but only ever on this one table and only on one pocket. Connelly doesn't make their own pockets, I think another supplier supplies the designer pockets/leather shields just like there are companies that do nothing but turn wood to make the table legs. I do not know of a single table manufacturer that makes their own wooden legs.

Brunswick Gold Crown IV with Brunswick Centennial Balls, Simonis cloth and an Amarath Red Dot cue ball. That should run you around 14,000, well.... If you get the table that has the ball return and all black with silver....

Try this one:
9' Connelly Coronado, Ulitmatized (2" 4-piece slate, 5 bolts per rail, 4" hardwood cabinet...SOLID), 9' dining table top, Aramith Super Pro balls, Simonis 860 Cloth:
$6500 -- A Steal!
Oh, and my favorite game is one-pocket...so no ball return...and no logo in the foot rail where the middle diamond will be.

Brunswick Medalist? That's only 7500 with the ball return.... I can't play on drop pocket tables. There's something in me that needs to hear the ball run down the return and hit the pit. That's when I KNOW I made the shot and it's time to shoot the next one :)
