Hello All:
I'm new to this board, so by way of introduction I'm a 61 year old who started playing 14.1 in the 1950's and played pretty regularly into the early 80's. I have a table, but family and work have kept me from really doing any playing in about 20 years now. The problem is that I was pretty good at one time and find it difficult to just fool around at a table, and that is all I would have had time for. Maybe after I retire (if I can still bend over).
Anyway, to my question. In the course of straightening out a closet the other day I came across a Viking cue which I bought sometime in the late 1970's, and I'm curious if it has a model number or name. Please understand that this is not a lead-in to trying to sell it somewhere, but I am curious, as I don't think I would have purchased anything that wasn't quite good, at least at the time, and I would like to know its provenance.
I can't find anything in the current catalog that resembles it. The best general description I can give is that it looks something like a "blonde" (linen wrap) Brunswick Willie Hoppe model. It's a 3-pointer (not 4) with a white plastic base, and rubber buttcap. Near the top of the white plastic there is a clear plastic band and inside it is a black cylinder with the Viking logo on it. Above the white plastic is a medium dark wood, which continues in the center of the three points above the wrapping. The wrapping is a white and light green string which I am sure is linen. The wood above the wrapping is natural (outside of the points). The points are outlined in thin lines of black, green and white plastic (outside to inside) and, as I mentioned above, the insides of the points are the same dark wood as the lower butt. The joint is stainless steel with a "long" screw in it. There is a brass ring on the bottom of the joint, and the tips all have a brass joint.
I would be very grateful if anyone can give me an idea of what model this was, and roughly when it might have been made. I believe I purchased it sometime between 1977 and 1980 through a direct order to the Viking company.
TIA.
