When I got my table a couple of years ago, I ask the guys setting it up to make the pockets pretty tight. I liked the idea of practicing on it and going out to bars and the pockets seeming so much larger....However, now the problem is I can't practice some of the shots I need to master because if you shoot just a hair too hard, or use too much English, the object ball will always just hang up in the pocket. Rail shots are almost impossible unless I shoot very, very soft. It makes it a problem getting the cue ball in position for the next shot. When I cover my table this time, I want to try to correct this....do you think they shimmed the pockets when they set it up? How do I go about correcting this? The guy that set it up is no longer here. Thanks, Mike

A rule book should give pocket dimensions where the variation is around 1/4 inch. Leave your pockets medium to wide to allow you to learn to cheat the pocket for position.

My long history of helping set up tables is limited to two. In both tables the placement of the rails was predetermined by the hardware included. The only adjustment was to make sure they were square. I'll bet they used shims but you wont know for sure till you take it apart.

For those that were interested, it was shimmed.....

how tight were the pockets? I have 4.25" pockets and i've never had a problem with a shot being next to impossible.
