Does anybody have any good practice routines they would like to share? I practice a couple times a week and I am looking for new routines. A couple good ones I am sure you all know about include setting 8 balls in a circle in the middle of the table with the cue ball in the centre. You have to shoot all of the balls into any pocket without letting the cueball leave the circle. A very good routine for controlled backspin. Another is setting balls from either the head or foot rail. You do this by placing balls(each a ball width apart) from the rail to the closest head or foot spot. Set up the cue ball and use outside english to pot the balls in the corner pockets alternately. The cue ball cannot come in contact with any balls other than the object ball. Anybody else have any good routines to share?

If you don't have videos, Kinister's 60 minute workout is pretty good...some are pretty hard to follow without the overhead camera. I just bought Byrnes Volume V from Seyberts and previewed it....is a more simple workout than Kinisters. I play "Ghost"....7 ball. Break, take ball in hand for your first shot and try to run them out. 1 point for you if you run out, 1 point for "Ghost" if you don't. You can keep score and see your improvement (in my case there is none  ) over a year's time.

Byrnes Volume V is very good, plus there's usually a number of practise drills at the back of most good books. Go to www.easypooltutor.com if your looking for some other practise drills.
here is a good practice routine.
put all the balls randomly on the table, no clusters.then run out.
if you miss then all the balls come out again and you start again.
when this becomes too easy then introduce some clusters and see if you can still run out. there is no order just pot any ball available.
it helps you concentrate on each individual shot , cos if you miss you have to start from the beginning.

The run out routine is a good one, but I usually play it as a normal game. So, I play stripes or solids after spreading the balls around. Place the cueball anywhere on the table and shoot away. This will also help develop shot selection and run-out strategy. I have found, however, since reading about taking it one shot at a time (instead of thinking about the run-out), I am more apt to complete the run-out. Usually, if I am on my game and concentrating, I don't even realize the run-out has happened.
