what works best for removing chalk from the ferrule? I've used cue clean (powdered bleach) and that works ok (it's great for cleaning the shaft) but I was wondering if anyone has experience with qclean but prefers another product. And if so, why?
I would try the Q-Slick, it is a liguid form and won't scratch up your ferrule. This is used to clean and seal your shaft.

Shark Oil and even Q Clean will clean the ferrule as well, as does a paste made of baking soda. Baking soda is an excellent and mild first-line abrasive that should always be tried before anything else.

I just used ordinary toothpaste on my ferrul and it worked great. Just try not too much on your shaft.

$100 bill or any bill will work great when folded moistened and rolled around the ferrule cardboard will work also .
If you chalk it right then it shouldn't get dirty, don't "drill" into the chalk with your cue, apply it gently while playing and before you put your shaft back in the case you should clean the tip from chalk with a paper towel.

I have been using mr. clean "magic eraser" pads for about a month. They don't seem to harm the finish on the shaft(s). It cleans about 95% of the chalk off the ferrule(s). Don't use a whole pad. Instead, cut it into
4 pieces and use 1 peice for each cleaning. When using on shaft, dry shaft off quickly. Use very little water to acivate pad piece. Retail for 2 pack about $3-4 USD.

I have done this. It works pretty good. However, I use a mixture of Murphy's Oil Soap and water (50/50 mix). I spray this on an old t-shirt and wipe down my butt, shaft, and ferrule. After I wipe it down real good, I wipe it dry with another old t-shirt. You can use paper towel instead of a t-shirt. This works great for me.
The Murphy's Oil Soap and water will last forever.

Q-CLEAN does the trick and keeps your shaft slick.
